FAQ for Mobile Devices under the UKCA Regime: Mobile Devices

UK Conformity Assessment Body

Q1) Is ACB a UK Notified Body?

  • Answer: Yes. We have, with the help of our US Government partners and their associates in the UK, been accepted under a “Mutual Recognition Arrangement” between the two countries. Hence, ACB is a UKCA Notified Body under that arrangement.

Q2) If a EU Notified Body TEC is required for due to a lack of a harmonized RED standard for our device, must we obtain a UK NB TEC for this device?

  • Answer: Yes, the requirements in the UK Radio Equipment Regulations 2017 are identical to what is required by the EU Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53. The UK Radio Equipment Regulations 2017 are in fact a modified version of the UK implementation of the EU Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53 where the modifications mainly consist to change the scope from the EU to a single country scope (the UK).

Q3) If the CE RED test standards that are needed for the UK are identical, is UK NB TEC needed?

  • Answer: Yes, it would still be required to obtain a UKCA type examination certificate. Normally the applied standards for the EU and UK are identical in any case but the UK is a separate country now which requires its own certificate. Until 31 December 2021 it is still possible to use the CE mark in the UK but as of 1 January 2022 it is mandatory to have a UKCA type examination certificate. The most current issue of the UK Radio Equipment Regulations 2017 applies.
