UKCA Certification for Mobile Devices – What You Need to Know

UKCA Marking Certification

As the UK’s departure from the European Union reshapes compliance rules, UKCA certification for mobile devices has become a critical requirement for manufacturers selling wireless products in the Great Britain market. The UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) mark replaces the CE mark for goods placed on the GB market, and wireless devices must meet the applicable UK regulations to achieve compliance.

American Certification Body, Inc. (ACB) is officially recognized as a UK Conformity Assessment Body (CAB), authorized to issue UKCA Type Examination Certificates for radio equipment under the UK Radio Equipment Regulations 2017. While many of the technical standards remain aligned with EU RED standards, UKCA certification is now legally distinct and mandatory.

For mobile device manufacturers, this means:

  • If your device previously required an EU RED Type Examination Certificate (TEC), you’ll now also need a UKCA TEC for GB market access.
  • Even if CE and UK standards are technically similar, separate UKCA documentation and assessment are required.
  • You must follow designated UK standards as listed by the UK government. View designated UKCA standards

The UKCA marking became mandatory on 1 January 2023. Manufacturers must affix the mark and ensure their products are accompanied by a UK Declaration of Conformity referencing the appropriate UK regulations. Read about using the UKCA marking
