FCC Filing Options – Paths for FCC Authorization

The FCC provides several filing options depending on the type of device and emission characteristics:

1. Certification

  • Required for: Most intentional radiators (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LTE devices)
  • Reviewed by: FCC-recognized Telecommunications Certification Body (TCB) such as ACB
  • Result: FCC ID and Grant of Equipment Authorization

2. Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity (SDoC)

  • Required for: Many unintentional radiators (e.g., digital devices, computers)
  • Reviewed by: The responsible party (typically the manufacturer)
  • Result: SDoC compliance statement included in product documentation

3. Modular Approvals & Permissive Changes

  • Used when: Updating an existing certified product or seeking approval for modular components
  • Handled through: Existing certification pathways, with supporting documentation
