Step-by-Step Certification Process for FCC and ISED Compliance
When a certification application is uploaded to our portal, the process follows these key steps:
- Notification & Assignment: Our reviewers are alerted that a new application has been submitted.
- Administrative Review: We check for completeness and compliance with documentation requirements.
- Technical Review: A designated expert performs an in-depth technical evaluation.
- Information Requests: If additional information is needed, the applicant is notified and given 60 days to respond.
- Final Certification Recommendation: Once all documentation is complete and satisfactory, the application is referred to the Certification Body for approval.

Managing FCC and ISED Certification Status: Maintenance, Reduction, Extension
Maintenance of Certification
Continuing certification depends on compliance with the signed certification agreement and all applicable terms and conditions.
Reduction of Certification
If a client informs us of product changes that may affect certification, ACB will review whether a reduction in certification scope is necessary.
Extension of Certification
If modifications expand the product’s capabilities without impacting compliance, ACB may extend the scope of the existing certification.
Suspension and Withdrawal in the FCC & ISED Certification Process
Important Regulatory Notes:
- ACB cannot suspend or cancel an FCC Grant more than 30 days after issue.
- ISED Canada manages device removal from the Radio Equipment List (REL).
Certification Status Changes
Withdrawal of Certification
May occur due to:
- Misuse of certification
- False advertising or non-compliance
- Violations of license agreements
Suspension of Certification
Suspended certificates must no longer be used or promoted. Products under suspension may be subject to recall if defective.
Cancellation of Certification
Occurs upon written request from the certificate holder.
Refusal of Certification
ACB reserves the right to refuse services outside the scope of our accreditation.
Dismissals and Certification Returns in FCC and ISED Telecom Approvals
In the event of a dismissal, withdrawal, or return:
- The Quality and Customer Development Representatives notify the client
- The application is updated and documented in our internal system
- The reason is logged, and case is closed accordingly
